Known as the home for the infamous Witches Gate house, Wichita Falls is also the site of another spooky location, shrouded in legend.
This location is not a house, but an intersection.
Where Hammon and Hatton streets cross is said to be incredibly haunted.
The Wichita Falls Hook Murders
Updated 2/11/2020 – According to this story, many years ago a young couple drove to this intersection and parked to make out.
As things were getting hot and heavy, a man dressed all in the black approached the car and knocked on the window.
Not at all weary, the couple opened the car down to speak with the man.
Without a word, the man began to attack the couple, and murdered both of them in cold blood.
Word has it that the only thing that the murderer left behind at the scene of the crime was a bloody hook, hanging from a nearby railing.
The murderer was never caught.
A couple of years ago, a young couple, by the names of Stacy and Charlie (Names changed for privacy), were wandering around Wichita Falls, frustrated that they did not feel comfortable hanging out with each other at either one of their parents’ houses.
As they drove around looking for a place to go, Charlie suggested that they park at Hammon and Hatton, where the other couple was said to have lost their lives.
Romance Turned Terrifying
“’Why in the world would you want to go there?’
Stacy had asked.
‘Because it’s almost Halloween, and it will make for a spooky adventure,’ Charlie replied.
Eventually Stacy relented and the two drove to the location.
“Stacy was pretty creeped out right from the get go, so I tried my best to put her fears to rest,” Charlie informed us.
“The area was admittedly creepy…it was incredibly dark out there, and everything just gave off an eerie vibe.
But I chalked it up to the fact that we had heard that tale since the time we were little kids.”
“Anyway, Stacy and I climbed into the backseat of the car and began our…romance, if you will.
Things were just starting to get interesting when Stacy suddenly put her hands to my chest, stopping me.
‘Did you hear that?’ she asked, looking startled.
“’Hear what?’ I asked.
‘That sound, like someone stepping on gravel,’ she said.
I stretched my face closer to the window, listening closely, but I didn’t hear anything.
“’You’re just spooking yourself out now,’ I reassured her, and starting kissing her again.
It was less than a minute later when she stopped me again and asked if I had heard it that time.
“’Do you want me to go out there and check?’ I asked her, slightly agitated.
‘No, you could get murdered!’ she cried.
I was just starting to laugh at her when I heard the sound of stones crunching under heavy feet.
“Both of us looked at each other, and started freaking out.
I began to feel around for the keys, but I couldn’t find them anywhere.
That’s when the car began to shake, as if someone was running into it with their bodies,” Charlie said, shaking his head.
“Stacy was screaming, and I kept fishing for the keys, scared out of my mind.
Finally, I found them and we clambered into the front seats.
As I sped off Stacy looked back but said that she couldn’t see anybody in the area at all.
“It’s dark in Wichita Falls, but not to the point where someone could have just disappeared like that,” Charlie said.
“We are both convinced that it was the phantom murderer back from the dead, come to claim more victims.”
