Most of us love to go for long walks, whether it be for exercise, sightseeing or a morning/evening stroll.
For me, it was mostly to get the blood pumping or to meditate and think about whatever was troubling me.
In the early 2000’s I was afforded the opportunity to travel to Greece with my husband on a business trip.
Updated 2/9/2020 – For the most part, I was left to my own devices and I went on a lot of day trips and did a lot of exploring.
I never thought that I would end up adding one of my own experiences to a website about haunted stories!
On the fourth day I decided to go for a walk up in the mountains behind our hotel, where a few ruins were.
My husband worried about me going alone but there were some locals who did the same, so I was sure I’d be safe.
After a hot breakfast I wandered over to the bottom of the mountain and saw a sweet, old man with a walking stick.
As I passed him, I said hello and he stopped me, saying that I should be careful as I might meet my soul on the trail.
I didn’t know what he meant and thought he was a little crazy, so I nodded and turned around to begin the ascent.
Halfway up the mountain, a creepy mist began to form
I’d heard about the ruins at the top of the mountain – simple homes from long ago – so I was keen to see them.
The mist thickened the further I got and I began to feel like someone was up ahead on the trail – or something!
When I strained my eyes to see, I saw a man in the mist about twenty feet in front of me, walking slowly.
I wasn’t sure about him, but no matter how fast or how slow I walked, he stayed the same distance away.
Not knowing if it was the altitude or not, I began to feel like I was zooming ahead and snapping back into my body!
Every time it occurred, I tried to shake it off and the man in the mist was always the same distance away.
It happened so often that I began to get used to it, until I saw images in my mind every time I zoomed ahead.
I felt like I was getting a bird’s eye view of myself in the future and that I was entering the man’s body to see.
Even though it was a man, I soon realized that it didn’t matter, as he was merely a vessel for my soul!
It’s one of those haunted stories in reverse!
I felt like I was haunting myself – if that’s possible – as I could never catch up with him unless I left my body.
The zooming and snapping back was almost nauseating, but it was also fascinating, as the images grew intense.
When I was ahead, I could see many children gathering around me and I could hear happy music and singing.
Sometimes I saw confusing things like funerals and lost spirits, faraway places and weeping mixed with laughter.
At one stage I had to stop to catch my breath and have a sip of water, while the mist continued to thicken.
When I took off again, I suddenly zoomed into the man’s body and stayed there, looking back to see myself watching!
I panicked and tried to run back to my own body, but I felt like I was running on the spot, never getting close enough.
No matter what I did, I couldn’t get out of his body, but I was shocked to hear a voice telling me about bowel cancer.
Then I was back in my body, vomiting on the side of the road.
The old man caught up to me and calmed me down.
When I got back, I was rushed to hospital and later on discovered that I had bowel cancer, to my disbelief and shock!
Also, the other visions eventually came true, including the deaths and the many grandchildren that followed.
I can’t explain how or why the man in the mist became a harbinger of death and precognition, but I definitely did meet my soul on the road to ruins!
