My business has me on the road a lot, so it wasn’t a big deal when I got a contract that took me far from home.
I ended up having to book a room at a hotel close to the job, which pretty much cut my daily travel time by 70%.
Being a building contractor, I had to hire many local people for the job which was constructing a house in the hills.
Updated 2/9/2020 – The property was owned by a millionaire who wanted a dream home built for his new bride as a wedding gift.
I’d never believed in ghost stories, which is what made the events so hard to swallow for a seasoned skeptic like me.
It was the end of summer and we were racing against the clock to get the house up and running before winter came.
One night, I had to meet up with the owner to sign paperwork and get last minute changes before we continued.
It was a pleasant drive up the winding road, looking out over the plains and enjoying the sweet mountain air.
When I turned into the driveway of the property, I had to screech to a halt to avoid a figure in front of the car.
He looked like an emo teenager, much like one of the kids my son hangs out with, but strangely looking down.
I leaned out the window and yelled, “Hey Buddy, wanna let me pass?” but he stood his ground and didn’t respond.
My blood ran cold when the headlights shone right through him
I was hardly breathing when I instinctively hit the high beams and watched the figure suddenly vanish into thin air.
It took a while for me to drive forward.
I met up with the owner, who was puzzled when I told him what happened.
He advised that he hadn’t seen anybody lurking about and that he’d keep his eyes open in case he saw him too.
Half an hour later I was driving down the mountain when I got a sick feeling, with sadness coming over me.
Then I nearly drove off the cliff when I saw the emo teen sitting in the back seat, through the rear view mirror!
I skidded to a stop and spun around, but he wasn’t there.
Then I freaked again when I saw him in front of the car.
My fatherly instincts kicked in when I realized that he was on the edge of the cliff, so I got out of the car.
Shaking with fear, I already had a hunch that this was not someone living, but I didn’t want to admit it to myself.
I saw him step backwards and I suddenly called out, “Be careful!” I was amazed when he looked up at me sadly.
His voice sounded like it came from somewhere else when he said, “I can’t stand it anymore.
I have to end it.”
Sad ghost stories are still terrifying if you’re involved
Somehow I understood that I was engaging with a suicidal ghost who maybe didn’t know that he was already dead.
Even though there was a side of me that thought this was a bizarre dream, I found myself wanting to help him.
The ghost took another step back and I yelled, “Don’t you know?
You’re already dead!” which made him stop.
He stared at me, seemingly horrified with what I’d said.
In a confused, tortured voice he asked, “Are you sure?!”
I nodded and felt like someone or something was acting through me, as I held my hands out and nodded.
It seemed like I was buzzing with a higher power.
I started walking towards him with tears falling down my face.
I felt like he was my son, which is why I was so emotional.
I said, “Come on, Son. You need to go to the light.”
Not knowing exactly what was happening and what I was saying, I saw him step towards me as he cried softly.
He walked into my arms and said, “Is it all over?”
I continued to cry but I smiled and replied, “Yes, Son.
It’s over.”
He collapsed into my arms and we hugged like there was no tomorrow.
I felt the light flare up into a gold cloud.
Suddenly I looked up and saw a flash of light as he ascended to heaven, which I assume was where he was headed.
It took a while for me to shake the strange sensation off and when I drove away, I knew I wouldn’t see him again.
