#10 – Adelaida Cemetery, Adelaida

Adelaida is a rural unincorporated community west of Paso Robles.

Not much goes on there besides a few wineries.

They don’t even have a post office.

They do, however, have one of the most haunted places in California.

The Adelaida Cemetery is famously haunted by Charlotte, the ghost of a Mennonite woman who died almost two hundred years ago.

She mourns the loss of her children to diphtheria, and lays flowers at their graves.

It’s said that if you disturb the flowers, she’ll visit you in the night.

It manifests as a bad dream; the worst dream you’ve ever had.

You might shake it off, but a few days later you may come down with a horrible disease yourself.

#9 – Proctor Valley Road, Chula Vista

Many haunted places in California are located on deserted roads.

Ghosts and spirits travel along them as they did in life, and sometimes they’d like to hitch a ride.

Proctor Valley Road is a barren patch of land that stretches between Chula Vista and Jamul.

There are dozens of ghosts and cryptids here, including an enormous ape creature who chases after cars.

#8 – The Red House, Artesia

One of the most haunted places in California is an old abandoned house on this street corner in Artesia.

It’s said that at the beginning of the 20^th century, it was occupied by an engaged couple.

On the night before their wedding, they had an enormous fight, and the man pushed his bride-to-be down the stairs.

She died, and he buried her in the back yard.

Today, she’s been seen floating near the local businesses.

She’s wearing her wedding dress, covered in blood.

It’s said if you step in front of her, she’ll rush forward and drag you back to her gravesite, never to be seen again.

#7 – Veterans Memorial Park, Commerce

This cute little park by day becomes very different at night.

Martin, a former janitor who died some time ago, still thinks he works here.

During the day, he’s friendly as can be.

You might see him floating around, and he’s even been known to answer the phone.

After hours, he does not like trespassers.

He’s why this park is one of the most haunted places in California.

He patrols the grounds with a pack of strange children with frighteningly black eyes.

It’s like something out of a horror movie, but they’ve been seen again and again.

It’s said that sometime in the fall of 2013 a psychic visited the grounds to determine what Martin wanted.

Shockingly she was told, “Don’t let me catch you…or you will become one of us.”

#6 – Vasco Road, Antioch

This 17.7 mile stretch of highway between Livermore and Brentwood is one of the biggest and most haunted places in California.

The entire highway is infested with ghosts, or perhaps invisible creatures.

Pull over at night and you’ll hear them.

They’ll be running all around you, panting and breathing.

Sometimes touching.

Sometimes people drive in and never come out the other side.

Nobody knows what these things are, or what they want.

They say an aspiring singer once went to see him, and became one of the biggest rap stars in the world.

That guy’s dead now, in the most horrible way you can imagine.

They say anyone can go see this pleasantly mannered and pleasant smelling fellow, and he’ll grant your fondest wish.

#4 – Old Earth Island Manufacturing Facility, Canoga Park

This old abandoned warehouse in the middle of the city is considered one of the most haunted places in California.

It seems that the old factory workers are still there, decades later.

They’re all dead, of course, but they don’t seem to know that.

They spend their time clanking around, moving chains and small objects.

Visit the warehouse and you might be physically attacked.

One man working on the building reports his tool chest slammed down on his hand, hard enough to almost break his fingers.

He ran.

When he made it out to the street, he said, he found tears in his shirt and scratches in his skin, as though something had been clawing at him.

#3 – Live Oak Park, Fallbrook

This beautiful park in Fallbrook is one of the many haunted places in California that is inhabited by an Indian spirit.

The local natives used to grind acorns using a particular rock formation in the park.

The boulders were so well-used that over time, the acorns wore indentations into the rock.

It seems that one Indian spirit won’t let go of the habit.

The local police have received dozens of calls about a little girl dressed in skins grinding acorns.

The police themselves haven’t been able to catch her yet, as she always disappears after a few minutes.

#2 – Former Site of the Rio Hondo Memorial Hospital, Downey

Although the hospital has been demolished, the site where it once stood is still one of the most haunted places in California.

The lot is absolutely filled with cold spots and EVPs.

Screams, typically, and moans of anguish.

It’s said that when the hospital was still standing, doors would open and shut on their own.

Occasionally, one could see long-dead doctors and patients walking through the halls.

If they saw you, the patients would rush forward and claw at you.

The doctors were far more sinister, and would impart you with an urge to lay on the floor for “treatment.”

#1 – The Old Sycamore Tree, Fillmore

One of the many naturally haunted places in California, this ancient old tree off Highway 126 in Fillmore is the home of a well-known spirit.

She is a White Lady, a type of entity that manifests when a nearby murder or suicide takes place.

It’s difficult to say what caused this particular White Lady to appear.

Some think a woman was hanged from the tree during the Mexican-American War.

Although a White Lady will leave you alone if you do the same, she will not hesitate to punish you if she thinks you deserve it.
