The Bloodthirsty Ghosts of Cherokee Cemetery

Most cemeteries are places where we leave the dead behind.

Markers or stones are put up to signify the dead’s memories and legacies.

Sometimes however those who have passed on don’t truly pass on.

Bloodthirsty Ghosts Spotted at Cherokee Cemetery

Updated 9/19/2019 – Some burial grounds are plagued by the spirits and ghosts of those who are unable, or unwilling, to move beyond the moral world.

Cherokee Cemetery in California is one of those burial grounds.

The graveyard is one of the most widely known locations infamous for housing apparitions and wandering spirits.

Many who have wandered into the location have bared witness to some of the creepy ghosts and spirits.

Though the graveyard bears many headstones, one such spirit in particular is responsible for most of the hauntings.

Legend of the Shadowy Specter

Legend has it that in the early 1800’s one of the youngest girls in Cherokee was brutally murdered.

As punishment the man responsible was burned to death in front of the entire town.

After suffering such a painful death, and having such an evil spirit as he did, his soul is now said to haunt whoever steps foot in Cherokee Cemetery for revenge.

Many have said to have seen the shadowy specter roaming throughout the cemetery.

Visitors have reported hearing thunderous footsteps late at night when no one else could be found in the cemetery.

Others have stated that they can feel being pushed by invisible force and the feeling that they are being followed when walking around.

Loud bloodcurdling screams and shouts can also be heard late at night, supposedly from the vengeful phantasm.

Sightings of the Ghost Boy

Another spirit said to roam the grounds is the ghost of a young child.

After his father died in the early 1900s, the young boy is said to have died on the same day feeling alone and abandoned.

Many who have walked around the cemetery say that they often see a young boy hiding behind a tree or a gravestone.

On further inspection behind the objects however, no one is ever found.

Others have said they can hear the faint laughter of a child, and as quick as it comes it disappears into complete silence.

One of the interesting legends state that if you put flowers on the young boy’s grave marker, the spirit of the child would cross in the mortal world the next day and thank you for them.

While some citizens of Cherokee don’t believe the rumors, most would tell you that the cemetery is one of the most notorious haunted locations in California.

With all the numerous sightings and witnesses that have seen something supernatural in the location, it’s hard to deny the facts.

So if you’re ever up in Cherokee and feel like proving yourself wrong, take a walk into the cemetery late at night.

Odds are the dead’s tombstones won’t be the only thing you see.
